There has been a major surge of new forms of exercise that have recently been introduced into the world of fitness over the past few years, one of which is Barre; the art of exercise with Ballet. Barre Class does not involve much of any heavy weight lifting to strengthen the muscles. In fact, it mostly consists of micro-movements that are repeated several times with focus on core strength and coordination. Barre was derived from the dance form of Ballet, which means that there will be a lot of stretching and a bit of gymnastics involved. It aims to strengthen, and then lengthen your muscles to produce a dancer fit type of sculpted body.

Some people who start out with Barre sincerely doubt that anything about it would be challenging enough to cause your body to go sore. But in fact, after you try out your first few classes with Barre, it will cause your whole body to be sore to the tidbit. Even those who regularly go to the gym or engage in regular physical exercise will be surprised at how much sore their bodies can get after their first few barre classes. Barre will not focus on making your body all bulky like the gym does as well. But Barre will give you a fit and sculpted body in a surprisingly short period of time due to the major carb burning workouts involved within its program.

    Using Your Mat

Mat is a common requirement for people who do Pilates. Using your mat you can work on your Pilates cardio workout.

    •    Lying face down on your mat, with your toes tucked together and your hands beneath your shoulders – raise yourself with your hands and toes (as if you’re doing a push-up).
    •    Faster than your regular phase, do leg lift.
    •    Make a marching like motion by lifting your leg one at a time.
    •    Do this in a small and fast movement.
    •    You may want to increase your speed to increase your breathing.
    •    Repeat leg lifts ten times or more depending on your routine.

You can also try this leg lift:

    •    While sitting down on the mat with your legs tucked together, heels touching the mat, your hands below your shoulder with your fingers pointing your heel, lift your body, so your heels and hands carry your whole weight.
    •    Raise your legs one at time, to make this into a Pilates cardio workout, raise your legs in a small, fast and quick motion.
    •    Repeat this ten times.

    Using Your Reformer

You can also do cardio using your reformer and transform your ordinary Pilates into pilates cardio workout by following these easy and simple steps.
    •    Using your jump board on the reformer and the two red springs, lie down on your reformer placing your toes and heels on the jump board to form table top like position.
    •    Using your legs, push away from the board until your feet are no longer touching the jump board.
    •    Repeat this around ten times.
    •    Switch from jumps to beat. (To do this, while your feet is not touching the jump board you let your feet to touch quickly in a timely manner).
    •    Repeat beat ten times.

If you feel you’re lacking endurance and strength, even though you regularly exercise, then it’s time to change it up. When you do the same exercises over and over again, your muscles begin to get used to the motions and they adapt to the same exercise. Perhaps if you only do one type of exercise, like running, you eventually stop losing weight or gaining muscle. That’s why many professional trainers suggest cross-training and changing up the types of exercises, to avoid plateauing. One good type of cross training is to switch up with weights and other type of strength training.

You can still do your aerobic training, but switch it up with some weight lifting, yoga or a pilates mat workout. These types of workout elongate and strengthen your muscles, often without any high impact on your bones and muscles, the way running or basketball might. For example, you can swim on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but on Tuesdays and Thursdays you can do a pilates mat workout or yoga or weight lifting. These exercises are low-impact, and they might even help you relax your mind, as well as increase the strength and flexibility of your muscles. Of course, do seek a professional before you do any major changes to your workout.

What is cardio barre? This is a kind of exercise wherein an individual uses a ballet barre to execute workout routines. It is considered to be a no-impact exercising regime which makes it safe for people who don’t have any past experience in physical training. The goal of a Cardio Barre fitness program is to tone muscles and get the body into shape. Dancers are making use of this form of workout because it is proven to improve flexibility and make one’s body leaner. In fact, its inventor, Richard Giorla was a dancer as well. He was in the heights of his career when he met an injury which prevented him from dancing. So what he did is to undergo therapy which includes Yoga and Pilates, using Cardio Barre as his primary workout equipment.

    What to Expect?

A typical Cardio Barre program lasts for about one hour. It is consists of deep knee bends, ballet improvements, weight training and other routines. The entire workout is supervised by a fitness instructor to prevent any possible injury. Even though it does not require running, jumping, or punching, it is still very effective in weight loss.
